Glossary termDefinition
AuthorizationPlacing a hold on a customer’s funds without moving them yet. With manual capture, you authorize at checkout and capture later.
CaptureSettling a payment by moving previously authorized funds. Capture can happen immediately or be delayed.
Eligible with LMNA product that qualifies for HSA/FSA spending only when the customer completes a health survey and receives an LMN. See What “Eligible with LMN” Means.
FSA (Flexible Spending Account)An employer-sponsored, tax-advantaged account customers can use for qualified medical expenses.
Health surveyA short questionnaire the customer completes during checkout so Truemed can assess HSA/FSA eligibility and, when needed, issue an LMN.
HSA (Health Savings Account)A tax-advantaged account paired with a high-deductible health plan, used for qualified medical expenses.
Immediate captureThe default payment flow where Truemed captures funds automatically after the customer completes checkout and the payment clears review. Contrast with manual capture.
Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)Documentation from a licensed provider that qualifies a purchase for HSA/FSA spending. Truemed generates it as part of the checkout flow.
Manual captureAlso called delayed capture. A payment flow where you authorize funds at checkout and capture them later, usually when you fulfill or ship. See Manual/Delayed Capture.
Partially eligibleA product whose price is only partly an eligible medical expense. Truemed identifies a comparable general-use product and uses its price as the non-eligible baseline; the remaining amount above that baseline is the portion that qualifies for HSA/FSA spending.
Pay at checkoutThe flow where a customer pays directly with their HSA/FSA card during your normal checkout. Contrast with reimbursement. See Core Concepts.
Payment sessionThe Truemed-hosted flow a customer is redirected to in order to verify eligibility and pay. The core object behind pay-at-checkout integrations. See How Truemed Checkout Works.
Payment tokenA stored, reusable reference to a customer’s HSA/FSA payment method—used to bill subscriptions and other recurring charges.
Pre-approvedA product that’s HSA/FSA-eligible with no LMN required—no health survey, faster checkout. See What “Pre-approved” Means.
Product catalogTruemed’s record of the SKUs you sell and their eligibility status, which powers collections, the PDP widget, and checkout messaging. See Product Catalog.
Qualification sessionA pre-screen that determines a customer’s HSA/FSA eligibility ahead of, or independent of, a specific purchase.
ReconciliationThe reporting that ties Truemed payouts and transactions back to your orders. See Reconciliations.
RefundReturning captured funds to the customer’s HSA/FSA account.
ReimbursementThe post-checkout flow: a customer pays normally, then submits a Truemed-issued LMN and itemized receipt to their HSA/FSA administrator to be paid back.
SKUA unique identifier for a product you sell. You submit SKUs to Truemed so it can determine their eligibility.
SubscriptionA recurring HSA/FSA charge billed on a schedule via a stored payment token. See Subscriptions.
SubstantiationProviding proof that a purchase was a qualified medical expense, sent directly to a benefits administrator or TPA. See Direct Substantiation.
VoidCanceling an authorization before it’s captured, releasing the hold on the customer’s funds.
WebhookAn HTTP callback Truemed sends to notify your system of events—such as a payment reaching captured. See Webhooks.
